Chongqing Arboretum was established in 1985, it’s also under administration of Administration of Natural Chongqing Jinyun Mt. Nature Reserve too. Its principal task is to protect, propagate and research local unique, rare and severely dangerous plants ,collect woody plants in subtropical zone widely, popularize scientific knowledge about plants with bright features of high scientific connotation, beautiful landscaping and strong popular science .

Institutional Framework and personnel: one director, three deputy directors, three senior engineers, 17 engineer, 19 technicians. S&T division is in charge of usual work of Nature Reserve, and colectiong & breeding team and garden keeping team are in charge of usual management of each functional zones.
Construction and development of the arboretum: under the leadership of forestry bureau of Chongqing, the arboretum owns certain scale. There is about 2500mu layout areas and 10 functional zones surrounding the Jinyun Temple.

１. Plum Blossom Exhibiting Zone: 10mu planning areas,to assembly various plum blossom varieties based on the former plums in the west of Jinyun Temple. It possesses high viewing value, and offers services for technological education.

２、 Camellia Exhibiting Zone: 10mu planning areas, to assembly various plum blossom varieties based on the former camellia in Jinyun Temple. According to landscaping layout, we will introduce rare species and expand quantity.

３、 Sweet osmanthus Exhibiting Zone: With 30mu planning areas, it’s located in double sides of the entrance of Jinyun Mt. We has plant over 1000 sweet osmanthus.

４、 Bamboo Plants Exhibiting Zone:With 30mu planning areas, it’s located in north side of Yuanxiao Summit. This area has introduced 94 bamboo plants. At present, it’s introducing various varieties of bamboo to be the park with the most bamboo species.

５、 Rare Endangered Plants Exhibiting Zone: With 40mu planning areas, it’s under bamboo exhibiting zone. It mainly collect domestic plants, especially rare national protecting plants in three gorges reservoir. At present, it’s under construction.

６. Exhibiting Zone for Mode Plants in Chongqing Region : With 30mu planning areas, it’s beside rare endangered plants exhibiting zone. It mainly collect mode plants of Chongqing, and it also is one of main features of Chongqing Arboretum. This type of exhibiting zone is few in other arboretums.

７. Gymnosperm Exhibiting Zone: With 100mu planning areas, it’s located in windstorm resume area of the Parking at the gate of Jinyun Mt. At present, this region is under artificial alteration and implantation.

８. Semitropic Evergreen Broadleaved Forest Exhibiting Zone: It’s a typical region in with conserved evergreen broadleaves forest. Jiufeng as the center, it includes areas in Luoyangqiao and Gaoguanying with 2000mu areas. This areas mainly exhibits typical semitropic evergreen broadleaved forest to serve scientific research and education.

９. Introduction & Domestication Test Area:With 10mu planning areas, it’s located in nursery in Shaolong Temple. It’s a breeding base for introduction and reproduction test of rare endangered plants.

10. Conservatory: With 0.5mu planning areas, it’s located in Sholong Temple and formed an organic whole with sample place and introduction test area. It mainly collect, breed and exhibit plants which live roughly through the winter in Chongqing.

At present, the ten functional zones have been constructed basically and are gradually consummating. We plan to make Chongqing Arboretum be a forest arboretum with own outstanding features.

Scientific Research and popular science Work: Chongqing Arboretum owns certain technical power. Most of present 30 employees are technicians, including three senior engineers and 17 engineers; the arboretum can take in charge of foundational topical research and implemented “Survey of Plant Resource in Jinyun Mt. ”, “ Research on Conservation and Reproduction Test of Rare Endangered Plants in Jinyun Mt.”, “Comprehensive Measures Research in Mountain Forest Fire in Jinyun Mt.”,ect scientific researchs; we also participated three international cooperation topics, over 30 national and local problems; Chongqing Arboretum was honored provincial awards on technological achievements and four advance awards on technology and 10 city advance awards on technology.

In recent years, the workers of the arboretum issued 46 thesis in various publications, including 26 technological thesis, and 4 awarded thesis and edited“Catalog for Plants in Jinyun Mt.”and “ Record of Plants in Jinyun Mt.”.

At present, Chongqing Arboretum is accelerating developmental step, and it will act an important role in ecological construction, environmental education and populization of science.
